MADRID, 26 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government expects the video game industry to have a turnover of 2,300 million euros in 2024, in line with an annual growth of 20% in the sector. In the same way, an employment growth of 8.5% is estimated, reaching more than 11,000 direct jobs in that same year.

The Government has offered these data to several Vox deputies in a registered response to which Europa Press has had access. With data from 2020, direct employment in the sector grew by 9.6%, reaching 8,026 jobs.

Already with data from 2021, according to the latest edition of the White Paper on Spanish Video Game Development, from the Spanish Association of Video Game and Entertainment Software Production and Developer Companies, the number of active studios registered in Spain is 435.

Although the majority of studios (27.4%) are found in Catalonia, there is also a strong presence in Madrid (24.1%), Andalusia (14.7%) and Valencia (9.6%). According to data from the report, 60% of already constituted Spanish studies are more than five years old, while only 11% have not reached two years.

For its part, the global video game market contracted by 1.1% in 2021, to a turnover of around 175,000 million euros. Of these sales, 45% corresponded to mobile games, 28% to console games, 19% to PC, 7% to tablets and 1% to browser games.

By region, the markets that traditionally had less weight experienced a visible growth in their turnover, as is the case of Latin America (5.1%) or Africa and the Middle East (4.8%).
