The share of contactless payments has doubled between the months of February and June, rising from 16% to 35% of all transactions, according to figures disclosed by the Finance minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD), in response to a parliamentary question relayed on Thursday by De Tijd.

In April, the federation of the financial sector, Febelfin has increased from 25 to 50 euros the maximum amount of contactless payment is authorized, in order to improve health and safety in full pandemic Covid-19. These transactions without a PIN code have soared since then, rising from 16 to 35% of the total payments between the months of February and June.
