The eCall system, mandatory by law for almost all vehicles, will now also be an element that is under inspection in the ITV according to Royal Decree 750/2022 that came into force on September 27.
The eCall (emergency call) is a mandatory system by law for all vehicles, up to 8 seats and light commercial vehicles, approved in Europe as of March 31, 2018. Owners of a vehicle already registered are not required to install the eCall device, but they can if their car meets the technical requirements. This system is not mandatory for motorcycles, although some motorcycles already have it. The eCall system, in the event that the vehicle suffers an accident, contacts 112 to report the accident and facilitates the location of the vehicle. The vehicles that have this system have different sensors, such as anti-roll sensors and belt tensioners. On September 27, Royal Decree 750/2022 came into force, in which it is included in the eCall as an element to be inspected : inclusion of «eCall» in the list of the elements subject to inspection, the methods, the causes of rejection and the assessment of the deficiencies in annexes I and III of said directive. From AECA-ITV, they indicate that this element is not will be reviewed until the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism includes it in the Inspection Procedure Manual for ITV Stations: This system will begin to be checked at ITV stations at the time the verification procedure is included in the aforementioned manual, which which may occur between now and May 2023. The Ministry will also have to decide if it should be inspected only in vehicles that are mandatory or in all vehicles that have it installed.
