ANNOUNCEMENT: EUPAGO WILL SECURE 10MM DIGITAL PAYMENTS IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA BY 2027

AFTER THE CONSOLIDATION IN SPAIN SINCE 2019, FRANCE AND POLAND ARE THE NEW TARGET MARKETS

PORTO, Portugal, Oct. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Eupago, a reference company in Portugal in the field of digital payments and present in Spain since 2019, today announced that it aims to guarantee in 5 years a volume of payments in the Iberian Peninsula of the order of 10,000 million euros, thanks to a constant growth in the demand of Spanish companies for Portuguese means of payment, in particular of the references MBway and MB.

The Portuguese company, which opts to become the peninsular leader in the field of digital payments, has 15,000 active accounts in Portugal and 3,500 in Spain, having registered in 2021 a volume of payments throughout the territory of 4,800 million euros in 2021 and expects to reach 6,000 million euros in 2022.

Specialized in e-commerce, open banking and credit (BNPL) solutions, the company, which has a Country Manager in Madrid, Carlos Moreno, indicates that Spanish companies are increasingly looking for more Portuguese means of payment to increase their sales in Portugal.

"We are already operating with many Spanish companies that, by providing them with Portuguese payment methods, can make their sales without obstacles or bureaucracy, and can easily operate in both markets" explains Telmo Santos, CEO of Eupago.

This movement occurs because in Spain there is a strong commitment by companies to Bizum, a payment method similar to MBway in Portugal, which has 22 million users, more than twice the population of Portugal.

For this reason, Eupago already offers the Bizum solution in Spain, to increase its penetration in the Spanish market and thereby open the doors to other European markets.

"Our internationalization began in 2019 in Spain, but in addition to reinforcing our team in Madrid, we will now invest 5 million euros in our expansion plan to other European markets, with France and Poland among our priorities," says Telmo Santos.

Eupago will be present this week at the E-SHOW in Madrid and points out that, according to the National Commission for Markets and Competition, 976 million transactions were carried out in Spain, worth €48 billion in 2020.
