Solution enables producers of medical devices, pharmaceuticals and luxury goods to meet stringent traceability requirements

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Nov. 15, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Loftware, a global leader in enterprise labeling and artwork management solutions, and SATO, a global pioneer in automatic identification and labeling solutions, today announced the launch of the first cloud-based RFID tag encoding and registration solution. Using SATO RFID printers and labels and Loftware's NiceLabel Cloud software, the solution is designed to meet the most stringent track and trace, brand authenticity and authentication needs of manufacturers.

The first solution on the market records the Electronic Product Code (EPC) and unique tag ID for each encoded tag, thus enabling "closed loop" tagging. By registering and assigning the EPC and unique ID to the database via NiceLabel Cloud, SATO's solution automatically maintains a unique record of each label after encoding and allows users to know exactly which factory, country and printer generated it. In addition to centralized data management, this extra layer of automation provides compliance with traceability requirements and eliminates the possibility of counterfeiting. It also complements the suite of RFID products already available for item-level traceability.

In the US, EU, China and Japan, among other countries, an increasing number of medical devices are required to carry a unique device identification (UDI) number to properly identify devices implanted in the body. Serialization is a fundamental tool for regulators in many countries to demonstrate the validity of pharmaceutical products. It also enables manufacturers to track and trace individual items back to their origin – the factory – for supply chain visibility and to know if a given item is genuine or counterfeit.

With today's "always on" supply chain, large companies print and encode millions of labels annually across multiple facilities. As a result, they need a globally integrated platform like Loftware's NiceLabel Cloud for centralized print and data management," said Paul Vogt, Vice President of Channel and Alliance Strategies and Programs at Loftware.

Fighting counterfeit goods is also critical for brands as they seek to prove the authenticity of their products. In 2021, only Amazon properly identified, seized, and removed links intended for sale to consumers. Counterfeits are a risk to e-commerce players, manufacturers and consumers alike, with the global anti-counterfeit packaging market expected to grow 45% between 2018 and 2026.

"Manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to improve their use of data for digital transformation to give visibility to their entire supply chain, and this new layer of traceability will drive efficiencies and enable more sustainable operations," added Yoichi Abe, Vice President SATO Holdings Corporation. "As pioneers in on-site data collection, you can count on us to always push the limits of what's possible."

Currently, the SATO CT4-LX desktop printer and the CL4/6NX Plus line of industrial printers are compatible with the Loftware NiceLabel Cloud RFID labeling solution. Other hardware planned for compatibility includes the S84NX print engine. Contact SATO to learn more.
