Specialists in heroic viticulture, and from the wine sector in general, will participate in La Gomera to discuss terraced agriculture and the exotic Gomera grape

The celebration of the 1st International Symposium of Uva Forastera Gomera and Bancales Wine, and within the framework of the Northern La Gomera Tourism Revitalization Plan, will bring together experts and professionals in viticulture, both from the Canary Islands, the peninsula and from different countries , to discuss a differentiated and high value agriculture model. The Plenary Hall of the Cabildo de La Gomera hosts this Symposium organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the Cabildo de La Gomera. It is celebrated on December 16 and 17. The main objective is to bring together representatives of heroic and terraced viticulture from France, Italy and Portugal who can share experiences in this type of cultivation in steep places. The Denominations of Origin of the Ribeira Sacra, Ribera del Duero, or the Ribeira del Alto Douro of Portugal will attend this first edition, and with the representations of the Azores and Madeira, denominations of origin of international reference.José Rodríguez González, president of the Protected Designation of Origin Ribera Sacra, together with Nancy Melo Herrera, president of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Wines of La Gomera, will open the meeting. José Luis Santiago Blanco, scientist in the VIOR group of the Biological Mission of Galicia (CSIC), Filipe Rocha, founding partner and manager of the Azores Wine Company, Carmen Martínez, scientific researcher and director of the VIOR Group in the Biological Mission of Galicia ( CSIC) and Javier Iglesia Berzosa, a promotion, tourism and innovation technician from the Aranda de Duero City Council (Burgos). The second day features Canarian, national and international speakers such as Roberto Gaudio, president of Valorization and Safeguarding of Heritage created by Viticulture Mountain and Steep Slopes, CERVIM of Valle d'Aosta (Italy), Pablo Roca Blasco, General Director of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), Catia Brito, from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Portugal ), Karina Freitas, from the Institute of Wine, Embroidery and Crafts of Madeira, Salus Álvarez Durán, President of the Regulatory Council of the Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin, José María Martínez Parrondo, president of the Cangas Protected Designation of Origin, Alberto González Plasencia, technical agricultural engineer-oenologist and president of the Board of Directors of Bodegas Timanfaya, and Francesca Fort, researcher and professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Rovira i Virgili, attached to the Faculty of Oenology of Tarragona.
