Donald Trump: We will take Mercedes-Benz and BMW with Customs duties

The US president tightens his threats against Europe: if the EU does not open, it would increase tariffs for cars. Cars are really a problem, he says.

Donald Trump: We will take Mercedes-Benz and BMW with Customs duties

US President Donald Trump has once again threatened Europeans with higher tariffs on car imports – and this time not only in case of retaliation for import duties on steel and aluminium imposed by him. Cars are really big problem, Trump said at a campaign event for a party friend and threatened: "We will prove Mercedes-Benz with customs duties, we will occupy BMW with customs duties."

At present, every car from us production that is supposed to drive in Europe is ten percent inches. In opposite direction, it is only 2.5 percent.

Trump's visit was forthcoming election to Washington seat of deputies, in which Republicans Rick Saccoe and Democrat Conor Lamb were able to deliver a surprising head-to-head race. In presidential election of 2016, Trump had won district with a 20 percent lead – and ultimately state of Pennsylvania, which has been in a democratic hand for decades.

Previously, Trump had written on Twitter: "The European Union, wonderful countries that treat US very poorly in trade, complains about tariffs on steel and aluminum."

Furr, he tweeted, "If you drop your horrible barriers and tariffs on imported US products, we will reverse our abandonment. Big deficit. If not, we levy duties on cars etc. Fair! "

No agreement yet

Trump commented after a meeting between EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and US trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on Saturday in Brussels. The EU is insisting that, like Canada and Mexico, it will be exempted from import duties on steel (25 percent) and aluminium (10 percent), which Trump announced last week.

A solution was not found at meeting, however, as Malmström shared. The discussion is expected to continue this week. If talks fail, EU wants to sue World Trade Organisation WTO and, in turn, impose tariffs on US products. To this end, EU Commission has produced a list of goods worth 2.8 billion euros, ranging from whiskey to motorcycles to jeans from USA.
