Drivers in the Charlotte area benefited from even cheaper gas over the Fourth of July weekend this weekend as prices continued to drop despite higher demand.
As of early Tuesday, prices at the pump in the Charlotte area fell 3 cents over the week, according to auto group AAA. The average price of gas in North Carolina also fell 3 cents, and it fell 4 cents in South Carolina. The national average price fell 3 cents over the week.
The demand for gasoline nationwide last week reached an all-time high, AAA said, citing the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Output at refineries has kept pace with demand, though, keeping prices low.
Below are the average prices of a gallon of unleaded gas in the Charlotte area, in the Carolinas and in the rest of the U.S. AAA surveys 120,000 stations nationwide to determine average prices.
