Health: Who is active, has a younger

They are less ill and clearly fitter: people who exercise regularly. For 25 years, researchers have accompanied hundreds of people for this realization.

Health: Who is active, has a younger

Anyone who drives sports is seen on average ten years younger than people who move only a little. This shows a recent evaluation of long-term health study to participate in sports scientists of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Kit). The investigation, which began in 1992, was observed among or things active and non-active in middle adulthood.

Professor Klaus Wick, who co-ordinated study toger with Alexander Wool, summed up result of results as follows: "Our data shows: The 50-year-old active is as fit as 40-year-old inactive."

On basis of data, it can be seen that, although niggles tackling, health athletes are significantly less affected by advancing age. For example, it can be said that a rar inactive person – among m scientists understand someone who has been exercising for less than two and a half hours a week – for example, a four times as high a risk of developing diabetes.

The study has been accompanied by subjects between 35 and now 80 years since year 1992 in Schönborn in Karlsruhe district. At beginning of study re were 500 participants, half of m men, or women.

Why are some sick, ors not?

In beginning y were medically examined: body measurements were taken, blood values were determined, a body fat analysis (BIA) was carried out and heart was examined using an ECG. Among or things, physicians also tested strength, speed, endurance and coordination of subjects and ir cognitive abilities, such as reaction speed or hand-eye coordination. The participants were also asked about ir lifestyle. Every few years, investigations were repeated.

The study is intended to answer question of how activity, fitness and health of subjects has changed over years. Why some are sick, while ors remain healthy under similar living conditions, was one of questions asked. Anor related to direct and indirect effects that sports activity can have, among or things, on fitness.

Active but not enough

The result shows that physical activity of subjects has increased over years. But not even half of World Health Organization (WHO) 's current recommendations of movement reached a weekly schedule of 2.5 hours.

The fitness of participants decreased over years rar, researchers write. The loss of power accelerate from 50 year of life. It has also been shown that difference in performance between regularly active and inactive with increasing age will become clearer.

The investigation also took into account main risks that are responsible for " main diseases of modern civilisation societies": Malnutrition, smoking, stress and alcohol. The researchers conclude that occurrence of metabolic syndrome – common presence of overweight, hypertension, elevated blood lipid levels and diabetes mellitus – would be highly likely to be avoided, for example, if people sport would drive. It is important to be active yourself – with sufficient exercise and healthy nutrition.
