New York: Sale of Weinstein film studios burst

The sale of Weinstein Company, founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, has failed. This was reported by Wall Street Journal and New York Post. After it had become known that state of New York had filed a lawsuit against producer and his company, an investor group led by entrepreneur Maria Contreras-Sweet had her purchase offer of almost 500 million dollars for film studios withdrawn.

The New York Post reported that, according to Public Prosecutor's office, after a takeover of company, it was no longer guaranteed that victims would be compensated after a sale. For this reason, action against Weinstein on Sunday had been raised before Kaufdeals was completed. In addition, Prosecutor called for establishment of an observer on board of Weinstein Company.

The 62-year-old Contreras-Sweet, according to New York Post information, had pledged during purchase negotiations to make next five films available for compensation to victims, and promised to have a majority of women-occupied The Board of Directors. Because of differences in demands of Public Prosecutor's Office, entrepreneur should have withdrawn her offer. A women's rights lawyer, who represents several victims of wine-growing in court, had agreed to conclude deal.

In 38-side indictment, brors Weinstein and company are accused of violating vonBürgerrechten, human rights and labor law, as Supreme Prosecutor of New York, Eric Schneiderman, has insided. Furr accusations against "vicious and exploitative abuse" of people in vineyard are also to be found in this.

The Board of directors and management of Weinstein Company were accused of not having adequate measures to protect employees from "incessant sexual harassment, intimidation and discrimination" and to punish Harvey's behaviour. Because employees were threatened by this, film production company, according to Public Prosecutor's Office, presumably had repeatedly violated laws of State of New York.

Weinstein was released in October by his production company. Numerous women, including actresses such as Salma Hayek, Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan and Mira Sorvino, have accused Weinstein of sexual assault and intimidation. Since beginning of scandal, more than one hundred women have now raised accusations against Weinstein. The producer admits misconduct, but has repeatedly rejected accusations of non-consensual sex.
