KIRUHURA, Uganda, March 13, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Ugandan President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, officially launches a new DigiTruck project in Uganda.

The project will provide free digital skills training to more than 10,000 beneficiaries over three years.

Launched on March 8 at an International Women's Day celebration in the Kiruhura district, the DigiTruck project is part of Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative, a long-term initiative of the company to drive inclusion and sustainability. Worldwide.

President Yoweri Museveni commented in a tweet: "I have launched the Huawei DigiTruck project in Uganda. A project that will benefit more than 10,000 Ugandans over 3 years, especially jua-kali, business owners, women, girls young people and students through Digital Skilling". In line with the International Women's Day theme "DigitAll: Innovation for a Gender Equal Future" and Uganda's national theme "Equal Opportunity in Education, Science and Technology for Innovation and a Gender Equal Future" , among the priority beneficiaries of the Uganda DigiTruck project are girls and women. Other beneficiaries are young people and the owners of "Jua-Kali" micro and small businesses.

"The digitization of Jua Kali businesses will create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the informal sector, as it will enable small businesses to participate in regional and national trade, broaden the customer landscape, and enable businesses to offer customers a greater range of services and products," said Colonel Rtd Okello P. "The training will also improve financial inclusion through increased ability to operate with mobile money and expand employment opportunities, especially in rural areas."

In collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Development and the international social enterprise Close the Gap, the Uganda DigiTruck project is in line with the country's vision for 2040, the National Development Plan and the Digital Agenda Strategy educational. These initiatives focus on promoting basic digital skills, digital communications and information, digital transactions, using the Internet to solve problems, online safety, civic responsibility and data privacy.

Converted from used shipping containers, DigiTrucks are truck-mounted mobile classrooms that can travel to remote communities lacking training centers. Each 40-hour course trains students in digital skills, such as the use of devices, office software and the Internet, and in interpersonal skills, such as writing a resume, applying for a job online and running an online business. Connected by 4G, the Uganda DigiTruck seats 20 students in a session and comes equipped with a Huawei IdeaHub smart display, smartphones and laptops. Since all devices are solar powered, DigiTrucks can serve communities without power.
