PSEG proposes data center in Central Jersey, report says

BRIDGEWATER - A special Planning Board meeting will be held next month on a proposal by PSEG to build a 74,950-square-foot data control center at the Bound Brook Driving Range site on Route 22 near Mountain Avenue, according to a report on mycentraljersey.com.

It will be used to manage PSEG's distribution of electricity and gas and will have about 60 people working onsite, according to the report. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Bridgewater Municipal Building on Commons Way.

The one-story facility would include a Delivery Emergency Response Center that would serve as a backup to PSEG's Newark facility during emergencies, according to the report. It will be located next to an existing substation built after superstorm Sandy.

Other data centers located in Somerset County include a Goldman Sachs facility that is over 300,000-square-feet in size in Bridgewater, a 250,000-square-foot Morgan Stanley data center in Franklin and a 200,000-square-foot Digital Realty Trust data center also located in Franklin, according to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.

Back in 2007 a proposal by Courtland Properties to build a 70-unit senior housing complex was rejected by the zoning board of adjustment, according to NJ Advance Media archives. There was considerable opposition to the project.
