QuoteWizard picks Denver to expand insurance quotes; needs developers

Incoming: Denver continues to attract outside tech companies large and small. The latest is Seattle-based QuoteWizard, which offers cost-comparison information on home, auto, health and life insurance.

Apparently, people are comparing rates in droves, which has the company expecting $100 million in revenues this year. Using the money to grow, the company decided to expand outside of home state for the first time.

"We considered several cities for expansion but chose Denver because it's home to a very talented and savvy workforce and it frankly shares many of the characteristics that we also find here in our Seattle headquarters. More broadly, Denver is a vibrant and fast-growing area and we're excited to be part of it, as a company," Kuba Poraj-Kuczewski, QuoteWizard's vice president of product and marketing, said in an e-mail.

Approximately 13 employees moved this month into the new space, located at 1925 Blake St, Suite 100 (and the former office of website developer Newmedia, which moved into the space vacated by Ibotta, which moved into its new digs last month).

QuoteWizard's suite has room for 40 people. The company is hiring and looking for people in sales positions and tech developers "who will further expand QuoteWizard's proprietary technology platform that matches consumers with insurance carriers across the U.S," Poraj-Kuczewski said.

To get price quotes, users must supply some personal information. Depending on the type of insurance, this could include a phone number, home address, birth date and annual household income.

Sites like Nerdwallet also offer comparisons, but you don't have to share personal details before getting an estimate. (Of course, Nerdwallet would be happy to link you to an agent).

But such personal details are not too different from competitors like Allstate-owned Esurance, or Progressive Group's comparison site.

QuoteWizard says it is independent and linked to 8,000 insurance agents nationwide who would love your business.

One thing that makes QuoteWizard different though is that it is self funded, according to the company.

Poraj-Kuczewski said, "we don't have to answer to outside investors, VC or PE firms. We have been profitable for many years and are now reinvesting some of our profit back into the continued growth of the company," he added.
