NEW YORK, Dec. 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Applications are now open for the AFS Global STEM Academies, a comprehensive scholarship program for teens with a keen interest in sustainability and a desire to help solve some of the the biggest global challenges of today. Global STEM Scholars enrich their sustainability knowledge and STEM skills through an interactive and hands-on curriculum, while developing critical global competencies such as problem-solving, analytical skills, cross-cultural understanding, and innovation Social.
The scholarships are sponsored by bp, a global integrated energy company, and the programs are designed to equip the next generation of STEM leaders and change agents with access to the education, skills and knowledge needed to help transition the world towards a more sustainable future.
Students between the ages of 15 and 17.5 from more than 18 countries around the world can apply. The application deadline is January 8, 2023. More information: afs.org/global-stem/academies.
What are AFS Global STEM Academies?
The Academies are 16-week, full-scholarship study abroad programs for students interested in STEM and sustainability. All fellows begin with a 12-week virtual (online) curriculum on sustainability and social innovation, jointly developed by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania. The fellows then travel for four weeks to one of the Academy's six destinations: Brazil, China, Egypt, India, the United States, or Europe (Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands).
Upon successful completion, fellows earn the Advanced Certificate in Global Competency for Social Impact, awarded by AFS and the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania, and join the global community of AFS alumni.
