HOUSTON and POINT PLEASANT, W.Va., Aug. 17, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Fidelis New Energy®, LLC ("Fidelis") is pleased to announce the selection of Mason County, West Virginia for a power plant carbon neutral ("net zero") life cycle hydrogen production and a low carbon microgrid -The Mountaineer GigaSystem™ ("Mountaineer") and the Monarch Cloud Campus™ for data centers powered by net zero hydrogen. Mountaineer will apply proprietary FidelisH2® technology, which enables the production of zero-carbon, life-cycle hydrogen from a combination of natural gas, renewable energy, and carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration ("CCUS").
As one of two West Virginia "High Impact Industrial Business Districts" based on Code 5B 2-21, the project consists of four phases, each producing in excess of 500 metric tons per day ("MTPD") of net zero carbon emissions hydrogen, with an approximate capital cost of 2,000 million dollars per phase, excluding associated investments in data centers, greenhouses, etc. The first phase FidelisH2 of the Mountaineer GigaSystem is expected to go live in 2028.
This carbon-neutral hydrogen will be used for various purposes such as carbon-neutral hyperscale data centers, greenhouses, transportation, and steel production.

Making West Virginia CCUS Leader
The West Virginia Department of Economic Development incentive package allows Mountaineer to conduct the additional geological assessment for carbon capture and sequestration ("CCS") required for the permits necessary to conduct CCS activities. These activities will serve as the foundation for the clean hydrogen and CCS industries in the state, providing a source of jobs and generating state revenue from the volumes of CO2 safely and permanently stored underground. Fidelis has a proven track record of CCS leadership, with experience partnering and developing carbon storage assets on the US Gulf Coast and in Europe. When all four phases of the Mountaineer GigaSystem are operational, approximately 10 million metric tons of CO2 per year will be permanently stored, bringing annual revenue of more than $100 million to West Virginia, or approximately $25 million per year. year per phase.

Fidelis and West Virginia have finalized the operating agreement that determines the conditions of the planned storage capacity and the pore space agreement that establishes the exclusive rights for the CAC in certain areas.
Energy transition technologies
Fidelis has a suite of patent-pending energy transition technologies that contribute to the decarbonization of hard-to-reduce industries. FidelisH2 is a novel hydrogen production route that allows carbon-neutral hydrogen to be obtained during its life cycle from natural gas and renewable energy. Fidelis' suite of energy transition technologies also includes H2PowerCool™ and CO2PowerGrow™. H2PowerCool uses FidelisH2 hydrogen as a net-zero energy source to power and cool data centers, enabling the creation of carbon-neutral data centers that can be hosted on-site at Mountaineer without the need for external indirect carbon credits or offsets.
The technologies will be used in data centers at the Monarch Cloud Campus, on land secured by Fidelis within Mountaineer facilities, and in other areas of Mason County. The total capacity of the data centers could reach 1,000 MW, which would mean an additional investment of more than 5,000 million dollars. Waste heat and a portion of CO2 captured from FidelisH2 production and waste heat from hyperscale data centers would be used as inputs for on-site greenhouses to decarbonize and reduce the cost of food production.
