RELEASE: GRUPO BIMBO REPORTS THAT 92% OF ITS ELECTRICAL ENERGY ALREADY COMES FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES

MEXICO CITY, November 17, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Bimbo, the world's leading bakery company, held its Global Sustainability Summit in Mexico. This meeting was attended by the main actors in the company's value chain, with whom it agreed to seek solutions to face current global challenges. In addition, best practices were presented, as well as progress of its Sustainability Strategy, and collaboration plans were established to achieve shared goals, such as achieving zero net carbon emissions by 2050.

As part of this event, Grupo Bimbo announced that 92% of its electrical energy globally already comes from renewable sources such as the sun and wind.

He explained that of the 34 countries where the company has a presence, 27 of them already have 100% renewable electrical energy. Recently, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, South Korea, Guatemala, China (in the Quick Service Resturants business), Kazakhstan and Morocco achieved this goal. In this way, Grupo Bimbo ratifies its commitment, made in 2018 under the RE100 initiative, to achieve a 100% renewable operation by 2025.

Daniel Servitje, president and CEO of Grupo Bimbo, commented: "On our journey to be a more sustainable company, we have established concrete goals and ambitions to make this world a better place for present and future generations. Our first Global Summit of "Sustainability allowed us to share good practices and advances, which we seek to inspire all actors and thereby continue working together to preserve our planet."

Rafael Pamias, general operating director and Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Bimbo mentioned: "The goal towards zero net carbon emissions by 2050 is very ambitious, however, we continue to take firm steps not only with the use of clean electrical energy, but also with our sustainable delivery fleet where we have more than 5,000 vehicles that use alternative fuel and 2,500 of these are electric units. Without a doubt, we have raised our level to become a sustainable company by design."

As part of this decarbonization process and adding progress in the pillar of its Sustainability strategy, "For Nature", Grupo Bimbo also shared its most recent achievements in its Regenerative Agriculture axis. Today, more than 570 farmers in Mexico have been trained to use this practice. In addition, more than 86 thousand hectares of wheat and corn have been planted with this farming method that improves soil health, biodiversity, and the health of productive ecosystems, while improving the nutritional contribution of inputs, the capture of carbon and the quality of life of farmers.

For the company, initiatives dedicated to Regenerative Agriculture are a fundamental part of its objectives. By 2030, it seeks to reach more than 200,000 hectares of wheat cultivated with regenerative practices; while by 2050, 100% of its key ingredients are obtained from lands cultivated with regenerative agriculture. In this way, Grupo Bimbo continues to advance towards its purpose of "Feeding a Better World" with concrete actions to achieve the goals set for 2030 and 2050.
