RELEASE: Huawei Released 5GigaGreen Innovations to Promote Peak Network Performance and Energy Savings

SHANGHAI, June 30, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- At MWC Shanghai 2023, Huawei launched 5GigaGreen innovations for wireless communications to promote maximum network performance and energy savings with global carriers.

Gan Bin, vice president and chief marketing officer of Huawei's wireless networking product line, said maximum performance and energy savings are the driving forces behind Huawei's wireless innovation. Adhering to the philosophy of 5GigaGreen, Huawei continues to innovate ultra-broadband, multiple antennas, maximized passive capacity, and "0 bit 0 watt" equipment and networks to take 5G from good to great.

Ultra-broadband is the best option to reduce power consumption of multi-band network

Huawei's ultra-broadband solution combines multiple bands into one to reduce power consumption and is applicable to all bands and scenarios.

Thanks to innovations in ultra-wideband RF and power amplification algorithm, Huawei was able to introduce tri-band FDD 4T4R RRU, featuring the lowest power consumption in the industry, supporting simplified deployment of all RATs in all frequency bands and offers a power consumption gain of more than 20% compared to the industry average. In Europe, after upgrading a site from four to six bands, its power consumption can be reduced by 30%. Ultra-wideband 4T4R RRUs have already entered large-scale commercial use around the world, with more than 100,000 shipments.

Huawei has also expanded ultra-broadband technology from FDD to TDD. The industry's largest bandwidth, the 800 MHz MetaAAU covers the entire C-band and reduces power consumption by 20% compared to two separate 400 MHz modules.

Ultra-broadband has also been extended from macro base stations to microwave and DIS. In microwave, the new 2T ODU allows more carriers to be added to provide 800 MHz bandwidth, reducing power consumption by 50% compared to the industry average. In addition, Ultra-Broadband LampSite enables 2GHz bandwidth, reducing the power consumption of the entire site by 40%.

The multiple antenna is optimal to improve the energy efficiency of the bits

Supporting high-bandwidth and multi-antenna technologies, Huawei TDD Massive MIMO improves bit power efficiency by 20 times compared to 4T4R. In high-traffic areas of commercial networks in the Middle East, TDD 64T64R Massive MIMO has achieved more than 10 times power efficiency gain by employing multi-layer pairing technology. In the future, the volume of traffic will continue to increase and more layers will be configured to improve bit energy efficiency up to 20 times.

Huawei is also the industry leader in FDD multi-antenna technology. In Europe, the FDD 8T8R solution, with its intelligent beamforming algorithm, has achieved a bit energy efficiency gain of 1.5 times compared to the traditional 4T4R. FDD M-MIMO, which is the only solution in the industry for large-scale commercial use, has improved power efficiency by 3 times. With the enhancement in 3GPP Release 18 and later, it will be possible to achieve a 4 to 6 times increase in power efficiency.

Maximize passive capabilities and explore new horizons to reduce energy consumption

Signal Direct Injection Feed (SDIF) is Huawei's exclusive advanced antenna technology. Get zero cable and reduce loss by 1.5 dB. It works with the Meta Lens to focus the energy of the beam for greater RF efficiency of the antennas, improving power efficiency by 25%. Huawei has delivered more than 250,000 green antennas for global business networks.

In addition, Huawei continues to innovate in TDD Massive MIMO. The industry-unique MetaAAU features Extremely Large Antenna Array (ELAA) technology. In Europe, compared to traditional AAUs, MetaAAU has reduced power consumption by 33%, while providing the same coverage, thanks to innovations in algorithms, architectures, software, and hardware. MetaAAUs have already entered large-scale commercial use around the world, with more than 100,000 pieces shipped.

"0 Bit 0 Watt": a new benchmark for equipment energy savings

Based on advanced hardware and software design, Huawei has achieved the industry's first super-deep latency with a 99% shutdown rate, reducing the equipment's operating power to less than 5W. With the innovative wake-up algorithm On demand, the equipment can be activated at any time. to guarantee the user experience.

Huawei is also the first company in the industry to achieve millisecond-level carrier and channel closure through joint innovations with RF and digital modules. This capability means an additional 10% energy savings compared to the shutdown per minute commonly seen in the industry.

Intelligence enables network level "0 Bit 0 Watt"

On a single network, the volume of traffic, power-saving features, power efficiency of the band and equipment, and coverage of each band vary from site to site. Huawei iPowerStar implements intelligent orchestration of power-saving strategies based on traffic characteristics, power-saving features, energy-efficient networks, and live network experience networks. This maximizes the energy efficiency of multiband networks by applying an optimal strategy for each site at each moment.

During the May Day holiday in Hebei, China, iPowerStar reduced power consumption by 19% while traffic volume increased by 19%. Overall, the energy efficiency of the network increased by 45%.

At the end of his speech, Gan Bin said that Huawei will never stop 5GigaGreen innovation and will continue to work with industry partners to take 5G from good to great.

MWC Shanghai 2023 will take place from June 28 to 30 in Shanghai, China. Huawei exhibits its products and solutions at booths E10 and E50 in Hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC). Together with global operators, industry professionals, and thought leaders, we dive into topics like accelerating 5G prosperity, moving toward the 5.5G era, and intelligent digital transformation. 5.5G creates new business value in areas like the Internet of People (IoP), Internet of Things (IoT), and Internet of Vehicles (IoV), supporting countless industries as they move toward a smart world.
