RELEASE: MedUX publishes a groundbreaking report on the 5G experience across Europe

MADRID, Feb. 26, 2023 /PRNewswire/ - MedUX, the leading Internet quality of experience (QoE) company, today announced the release of its European 5G QoE benchmarking report.

The report will be presented on Monday 27 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at 6:00 p.m. in the Spanish Pavilion, highlighting key findings on the performance and end-user experience of 5G networks in large European cities.

According to the report, Lisbon, Madrid and Berlin have proven to be the cities with the best quality of experience in 5G. In general, “bigger cities don't necessarily mean better 5G networks or the best experience. London and Rome are among the worst performers. The devil is in the details, as not all 5G networks are created equal. Speed is not everything and the industry is trying to adapt to meet the needs of customers when using real services," said Rafael González, CMO of MedUX.

Lisbon has been named the winner of the "Best QoE" award. Meanwhile, Berlin has proven to have the most consistent network performance, closely followed by Barcelona and Paris, in the "Reliability Award," the study's second most important category.

The report reveals that non-standalone 5G (NSA), where 5G is complemented by 4G, has been deployed significantly in all cities, with the widest 5G coverage ratio seen in Germany, reaching 96% in Berlin.

In terms of speed, the fastest 5G download speeds were also seen in Berlin, with speeds of 1.5 Gbps on Deutsche Telekom's network. This speed was approx. 5 times the typical download speed in Lisbon at around 330 Mbps, the highest median among European cities.

The study shows that Portugal is also a leader in 5G gaming experience. Lisbon has the highest score thanks to typical and sub-latency values of 44ms and 8ms, respectively. In addition, Lisbon also has the best data and OTT experience, while Barcelona was named the winner of "Streaming Experience".

"The findings are critical for network operators and other industry stakeholders as they work on 5G network deployments in their respective countries," said Luis Molina, CEO of MedUX. "It provides valuable information about the state of 5G networks in Europe, and we are excited to share this information with the industry at MWC to improve the customer experience and help with the quality and reliability of 5G networks."

The report concludes that the experience varies significantly based on configuration and deployment decisions. As such, MedUx encourages network operators to remain competitive in the digital age and in an increasingly connected world.

MedUX is headquartered in Madrid, Spain, and has a presence in more than 25 countries in Europe, America, Africa, and the Middle East, and monitors more than 80 operators worldwide.
