With a dedicated and experienced board of directors and scientific advisory council, including some of the world's best mitochondrial scientists, the Foundation is rapidly becoming a leading funder of basic, translational and clinical PolG research. Working with the global scientific community, we are investing in the development of critical tools and continue to make our findings available to mitochondrial scientists, clinicians, and patients around the world.

In addition to the development of IPS cell lines, RNA sequencing, and two transgenic mouse models for use by PolG researchers, the Foundation is also actively working on the creation of a global PolG registry and a prospective natural history study.

A central pillar of the Foundation is to raise funds and provide grants to leading basic science researchers, clinical trial research, and development of novel therapies for PolG mitochondrial disorders in both pediatric and adult PolG populations. Today, the PolG Foundation is pleased to announce four winners of our first Research Initiative Call for Proposals.

We are excited to see these grants implemented by the four research groups that will do outstanding R&D work in the field of POLG biology:

Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Boston (EE.UU.)

University of Helsinki, Research Programs Unit, Faculty of Medicine (Finlandia)

Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Bergen (Norway)

Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research (WCMR), Newcastle University (Reino Unido)

Fully aligned with the Foundation's strategy, these research grants cover different core components that characterize the disease: from understanding how the disease develops and progresses to tracking phenotypes with outcome measures. We are hereby committed to discovering and developing new potential drugs and therapies.

As a standard bearer of the global PolG community, we are deeply moved by all the interest and support received from individuals, foundations, scientific, biotech, pharmaceutical, patient advocacy and medical ecosystems. With your help and financial support we can advance our ambitious mission by discovering new therapies and a possible cure for PolG. Thank you!
