The diversity of the award categories reflects SABIC's wide range of innovative solutions.
In particular, for its contribution to sustainability, the Edison Awards recognized SABIC's collaboration in the innovative development of a frozen food packaging solution that uses recycled plastic sourced from the ocean. Recognized as a gold award winner in the "Green Remediation" category, the solution uses SABIC's TRUCIRCLE™ certified circular polyethylene made from raw material sourced from post-consumer plastic waste recovered from ocean and river feed zones. The solution was designed in collaboration with the manufacturer of flexible film products Polivouga and the owner of the brand Nueva Pescanova Group, specialized in products such as frozen seafood, making it a truly circular product.
In the "Advances in Food and Agriculture" category, SABIC was recognized as a gold award winner for its Blue Urea solution, a low-carbon, sustainable nitrogen fertilizer. SABIC Agri-Nutrients produced the product using ammonia with a zero carbon footprint and recently achieved the world's first independent certification for the production of blue ammonia. The certification was granted by TÜV Rheinland, one of the leading independent testing, inspection and certification agencies. To obtain "blue" certification, a significant portion of the CO associated with the manufacturing process must be captured and used in downstream applications.
Also in the area of food and agriculture, the Edison Awards awarded a bronze award to SABIC's Next Generation Fertilizer, which increases crop yields while reducing the need for large amounts of fertilizer. The exclusive multi-nutrient foliar fertilizer was developed with components that increase crop yields and protect them in a single formula to provide nutrition and protection against stress to plants. SABIC formulation studies have shown up to 17% improvement in yield with up to 25% reduction in fertilizer use.
