RELEASE: Sovos Offers Leadership to Businesses Needing to Navigate VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA)

Technology and regulatory expertise provides stability for companies in a period of uncertainty

BOSTON, April 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Global tax software provider Sovos today announced that world-renowned VAT expert Christiaan Van Der Valk, Vice President of Strategy and Regulation, will lead the E-Invoicing Exchange Summit Miami, April 24-26, 2023. His scheduled presentation, ViDA and the Global Tax Digitization Tsunami: Overcoming Business Pitfalls, will be his first public presentation on the subject since the European Commission (EU) announced its plans for ViDA in December of 2022.

VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) will forever change the way trade is conducted and reported in the EU. It will require changes in approach, both from a regulatory and technological standpoint, to continue to comply with all local laws and mandates. To help keep companies informed of new developments and help guide them through proposed changes, Sovos has established a ViDA HUB page that will be continually updated as information becomes available.

As part of Sovos' ongoing commitment to help businesses successfully navigate ViDA, we are working with KPMG to produce a series of video segments addressing the key issues behind ViDA, lessons learned from tax digitization pioneers in Latin America, and what companies need to be doing now to better prepare for ViDA. Kathya Capote Peimbert, director of tax administration, Indirect Tax, KPMG, Vinicius Pimentel de Freitas, technological manager of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations and Christiaan Van Der Valk will participate in these segments. Those interested in receiving this video content can pre-register here and will receive an alert when it becomes available.

"ViDA, at its core, deals with data. The ViDA proposal is a sign that EU governments are no longer content to receive ex-post tax returns that only provide a superficial view of aggregated data," explained Christiaan Van Der Valk, vice president of strategy and regulation at Sovos. "Leveraging technology, tax administrations can now receive authenticated transaction data detailing every sale and purchase directly from companies' source systems. By bringing tax controls much closer to the actual operation of the business, tax administrations can also respond to anomalies in near real time. My advice? Don't wait, ViDA will be your new reality sooner than you think."
