RELEASE: Trip.com publishes the latest data and preferences of Spanish and European travelers for the summer of 2023

MADRID, June 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Trip.com presents an analysis of the emerging trends and the evolution of preferences that define the tourism landscape in Spain and Europe this summer.

With the arrival of summer, travelers from all over the world are preparing for their long-awaited vacations, with the hope of finally saying goodbye to these last years of restrictions. According to data obtained by Trip.com, vacation reservations for this summer (June 1 to August 31) have surpassed those of 2019 worldwide, and trips to nearby destinations have been in the lead. Overall, bookings made on the Trip.com platform for Europe increased by 72% compared to the same period in 2022, and a whopping 609% compared to summer 2019.

European travelers are waiting for a better time to book long-haul travel

This summer, European travelers continue to prefer to book short-haul flights, which account for 67.3% of all flight bookings. Although long-haul bookings have reached double digits, they only account for 13.2% of all bookings, far behind the 47.5% recorded in 2019.

The 10 preferred destinations for European travelers are Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Greece, France, Portugal, Germany, the United States, Turkey and the Netherlands.

Spanish travelers seek relaxation and leisure

This summer, Spanish travelers prefer to spend their holidays close to home to explore the cultural richness of the Mediterranean coast. Among the most fashionable countries this summer, in addition to Spain, are Italy, France, Portugal, Morocco and Greece. Its warm climate, paradisiacal beaches and coastal attractions have made them very popular summer destinations among Spanish travelers seeking relaxation and leisure.

The historical value of many European destinations, added to the monuments, museums, art exhibitions and architectural works that these countries house, are some of the main attractions for Spanish travelers. The 10 most popular destinations among Spanish travelers outside their country of origin are Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Thailand, Germany, Morocco, the United States, Greece and Indonesia.
