ABU DHABI, UAE, April 19, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Wemade, a leading game developer in South Korea, has announced its participation in the first edition of the University Gamedev League as the exclusive blockchain gaming partner of Nine66, a company by Savvy Games Group.
The University Gamedev League is a competition for university student game developers from around the world. More than 50 teams from 30 universities and 10 countries have signed up to participate in this five-month long contest. The initiative provides a unique opportunity for aspiring game developers to showcase their talent, collaborate with others, network, and be mentored by world-renowned game experts.
The top two teams will fly to Riyadh, to compete in the final to be held during Gamers8, an eight-week esports tournament and gaming festival that drew more than 1.5 million visitors in 2022.
This partnership builds on the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding between Wemade and Nine66 and is in line with the ambitions of both parties for the gaming industry in Saudi Arabia. According to analysts at Niko Partners, the gaming market in the Middle East is expected to grow by 56% to reach $2.79 billion by 2026, and Saudi Arabia's 21 million gamers constitute an untapped demographic.
In an effort to become the next global hub of the gaming industry, Savvy Games Group is investing $38 billion in the gaming industry. Wemade is stepping up its effort to develop the flourishing gaming ecosystem in Saudi Arabia and increase its local presence by participating in this initiative. In addition, it is the first Korean company to sponsor the competition. Through its role, Wemade will facilitate knowledge transfer and skill building for the new generation of game developers blending blockchain technology within the Saudi Arabian gaming ecosystem.
