A GetApp study indicates that 72% of Spaniards who pay with a digital wallet were stimulated by the pandemic to use this payment method. 77% of respondents think they have a great level of control to manage their expenses when using digital wallets

A study by the GetApp business software opinion platform reflects the upward trend of digital wallets as a payment method. In the first part of his survey, 89% of Spaniards who use a virtual wallet highlighted that they use it as a debit or credit card. In this second installment of the study, 59% of this segment would be willing to stop using cash and start using only digital payments. 72% of Spaniards who use wallets to pay agree that the pandemic pushed them to stop using cash and turn to new digital methods. Furthermore, 58% of those surveyed who use their digital wallets to pay agree that they are interested in having a card-free system throughout society. Therefore, the data indicates that many of the consumers who have embraced payment by smartphone or smart watch would be willing to completely abandon physical credit or debit cards. Despite this trend, the Spanish have not yet taken the definitive step. In fact, 44% of those surveyed who use their digital wallets to pay always carry some cash with them. The study also analyzes the behavior of users who pay with digital wallets when managing their finances, an issue that is gaining relevance in these times of economic uncertainty. Thus, 47% of participants agree that it is more difficult for them to control their finances by using a digital wallet than with other payment methods, unlike 57% who somewhat or strongly disagree. Going into more detail , 77% of respondents think they have a high level of control to manage their expenses when using digital wallets, compared to 70% when using cash. Despite the fact that both results are fairly even, it seems that the Spanish user who uses his wallet to pay admits to having a little more control of his finances with this method than with cash. The results indicate that consumers use digital wallets to pay especially in restaurants and food. Specifically, 80% always or sometimes pay in bars and restaurants through the wallet, while 79% do the same when buying food. In this regard, GetApp wanted to know if the Spanish are satisfied with the infrastructure to pay with wallets digital. The conclusion is that 76% somewhat or strongly agree that in Spain there is a good infrastructure to use digital wallets.
