-CapitaLand awards 10 winners of its Sustainability
SINGAPORE, Nov. 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- CapitaLand Group (CapitaLand) has awarded 10 winners of its CapitaLand Sustainability CapitaLand around the world, following their final presentations at CSXC Demo Day 2023. Four leading innovators, viAct, Healthway Family of Brands, Ralos Enterprise Corporation (Enamil LLC Japan) and Magorium have won special recognition awards: High Impact Award , Most Innovative Award, Most Scalable Award and Emerging Startup Award presented by Enterprise Singapore respectively, and will each receive S$150,000 to fund their pilot projects.
viAct's innovation is an AI-powered video analytics tool to provide granular insights that improve safety, productivity, and compliance with environmental standards in the workplace (AI-Powered Video Analytics). Healthway Family of Brands uses a patented low-pressure drop filtration technology that replaces existing media filters to improve the system-level filtration performance and efficiency of existing air handling units, while reducing load of energy in the fan motors (disinfectant filtration system). Ralos Enterprise Corporation's (Enamil LLC Japan) lightweight flexible solar module is integrated with corrugated steel that can be installed horizontally or vertically as a building-integrated photovoltaic (PV) system or as a conventional solar photovoltaic (corrugated roof) system. Magorium's solution is a technology that converts contaminated and unsorted plastic waste into a sustainable construction material that can potentially be used for road construction within CapitaLand (Magorium) business parks. Six other innovations on low-carbon transition, water conservation and resilience, waste management and circular economy, and health, safety and well-being in buildings also won S$75,000 each to fund their pilot projects.
Finalists with innovations from around the world were shortlisted from more than 680 innovations and 79 countries for the third edition of CSXC, the first global sustainability innovation challenge from a Singapore-based real estate company. In line with CapitaLand's efforts to foster innovation across the built environment, CSXC Demo Day 2023 was held in conjunction with the launch of the Built Environment Innovation Hub @ Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Braddell Campus (BEIH) . Additionally, CapitaLand will explore opportunities to collaborate with BCA on potentially piloting other CSXC innovations at its facilities. Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister of Finance and Second Minister of National Development was the guest of honor at the CSXC 2023 Demo Day.
Vinamra Srivastava, Chief Sustainability Officer at CapitaLand Investment, said: “Innovation is a key driver in our decarbonisation journey as we work towards our 2030 sustainability goals. Through platforms such as CSXC and our 50 million CapitaLand Innovation Fund of Singapore dollars, we aim to support innovators to scale and commercialize their technologies to create a climate resilient built environment. This is the first time we have partnered our tenants to test CSXC innovations in their facilities. Via This collaboration, we hope to find practical solutions that can also help our tenants improve their sustainability. Along with our other initiatives, such as implementing green leasing, collaborating with our tenants on green initiatives and sharing sustainability best practices, our "Our goal is also to expand our focus on reducing our Scope 3 emissions. We will continue to leverage innovation and collaborate with like-minded partners to amplify our impact and create a more sustainable and resilient built environment."
One of CSXC 2022's innovations, SlideLuvre's smart voltaic grids, is being tested at BCA SkyLab, a state-of-the-art test facility on the BCA Braddell Campus. The facility has a 360-degree rotating platform that allows technologies to be tested in real-world conditions in different orientations of the building. The louvers reduce the building's energy dependence on external sources by generating solar energy and save energy by reducing cooling needs.
Two CSXC 2021 innovations that completed pilot testing at CapitaLand properties were part of the showcase of innovative technologies at the BEIH launch. One such solution is CONTINEWM®, a patented ceramic mesh that acts as an infrared emitting filter that was tested at LogisTech in Singapore. During the pilot test, it achieved up to a 51% reduction in fan consumption and a 16% reduction in cooling load for the two air handling units that were equipped with a total of 50 CONTINEWM® networks. Another CSXC innovation on display is Climatec's chemical- and electricity-free cooling tower water treatment solution that improves water efficiency by significantly reducing blowdown. Tested at CapitaGreen in Singapore, the innovation achieved a 99.8% reduction in cooling tower blowdown water and up to a 2.8% improvement in chiller plant efficiency.
CSXC has grown from strength to strength since its launch in November 2020. This year, CSXC received double the number of entries compared to CSXC 2022. Twenty projects from the first two CSXCs are being piloted or preparing to pilot across 24 CapitaLand properties in Singapore, China, India, Thailand and the United States. For the first time, sandbox partners such as DBS Bank, DFI Retail Group and KPMG in Singapore will potentially pilot CSXC 2023's winning innovations in their respective leased spaces at CapitaLand properties.
In addition to supporting innovators around the world through CSXC, CapitaLand also champions innovation among its staff with a $50 million Innovation Fund launched in 2021. To date, 62 innovations have been selected for further development and pilot projects, more than half of which are related to sustainability.
