BARCELONA, Spain, March 3, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei's Smart Roads, Waterways and Ports BU presented its latest Smart Roads and Ports solutions at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. 5G solutions were deployed commercially and have been operating in Tianjin port for more than a year. In fact, the 5G smart port project won the GSMA Best Mobile Innovation for the Connected Economy award at MWC 2022.

The BU of Roads, Waterways and Smart Ports also hosted a media roundtable to highlight their practices in developing smart ports.

Huawei's intelligent horizontal transportation solution is one of the company's leading solutions for smart ports. The Tianjin Port Second Container Terminal has used the solution to build a smart port powered by 5G and L4 autonomous driving. Here, 76 IGVs have been routinely operating autonomously for over a year, alleviating driver shortages and increasing port efficiency.

York Yue, CTO of Smart Road, Waterway, and Port BU, explained that intelligent horizontal transportation using 5G and IGV networks is ideal for container terminals. Beijiang Port Area C Section in Tianjin Port is the first terminal to deploy Huawei's intelligent horizontal transportation solution, which has achieved large-scale, commercial and regular operations. The use of 5G and L4 autonomous driving is enabling both business and social value.

This represents progress for the entire port industry. Huawei hopes that the Tianjin port experience can serve as a benchmark for industry development and inspire innovative ideas.

BU also exhibited at MWC 2023 its four solutions for intelligent roads: Multi-Dimensional Highway Awareness, All-Optical Intersection, Roadway Networking and Intelligent Traffic System. The solutions are based on Huawei's leading ICT and extensive industry experience to support highway construction, management, maintenance, operations and services. The result is smart roads that are open, shared, advanced and ready for future evolution.

Looking ahead, Huawei's Smart Roads, Waterways and Ports Business Unit will continue its commitment to provide the right technologies for the right scenarios with openness, cooperation and mutual benefits in mind. It focuses on ICT infrastructure and aims to address the challenges of the industry. Using Huawei's core capabilities, BU develops E2E solutions in collaboration with ecosystem partners. They drive digital transformation and smart upgrade for various industries, creating new value together.
