Iraga Servicios and ADBioplastics will replace conventional plastic with compostable bioplastic in passenger transport catering
This new solution will allow a reduction in CO2 emissions both in the manufacturing of the product and in the packaging process.
Madrid, October 19, 2023.-
The company Iraga Servicios, specialized, among others, in shrink-wrapped handling and manual handling, with extensive experience in the air catering and land passenger transportation sector, has carried out a successful development of packaging material with ADBioplastics, a company specialized in the design and Custom manufacturing of compostable bioplastics of renewable origin.
This product matches the perceived quality characteristics of conventional plastic and, in addition, presents certain advantages at a production level. Among them, it allows the sealing temperature to be reduced by around 50%. This results in a decrease in CO2 emissions both in the manufacturing of the product and in the packaging process.
In addition, the new packaging meets the objectives established by the European Union for packaging in 2030, as it offers a compostable solution and has a certification that verifies that the material degrades into its basic components (carbon dioxide and water) in a approximate period of 3 months under industrial compostability conditions. In this way, according to the current recycling circuit, the material can be deposited in the organic container (brown) so that a waste manager can transfer it to a composting plant.
A long term agreement
The main objective of this agreement is to replace the usual material of fossil origin used until now in shrink-wrapping processes with a film supplied by ADBioplastics in the catering services of Iraga Servicios' main passenger transport clients, thus promoting innovation, the circular economy and compliance with legislative requirements in these companies.
Sustainability is a fundamental value for Iraga Servicios and ADBioplastics and through this alliance they will be able to offer products and materials for biobased and compostable containers and packaging aligned with their long-term management and innovation policies.
This collaboration demonstrates that it is possible to combine business success with respect for the environment and social well-being, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set in the United Nations 2030 agenda.
