STATEMENT: NFT Adopts 1,200 Trees: Shanghai Electric's "Zero Carbon" Campaign Concludes Successfully

SHANGHAI, Oct. 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- The public service campaign Go! 0 Shanghai Electric's Carbon Walker, launched on the occasion of World Walker's Day, has been successfully concluded.

The campaign encouraged the public to walk instead of drive and thereby help make a low-carbon future possible. Every 2,000 steps completed by a participant represented one of the company's zero-carbon projects, turning on a light on a designated sign. Once all the lights were on, a raffle was held in which one participant received a free prize.

Another feature of the campaign was that the first 1,200 attendees who completed 20,000 steps during the event will join Shanghai Electric in Yan'an, a city in China's Shaanxi province. There they will witness the value of the online environmental initiative when they plant the unique Zero Carbon Tree as a genuine opportunity to engage in low carbon practices.

As an inseparable part of what it means to adhere to ESG principles, efforts in the public sector are key to social progress, with a wide and deep impact on both nature and society.

In response to the Chinese government's mission to achieve peak carbon by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 (referred to as the 30-60 double carbon targets), Shanghai Electric has increased the strength of its own business through a series of best practices and strong capabilities.

In the power and manufacturing sectors, the two areas most responsible for the country's energy consumption, Shanghai Electric has been building comprehensive new power systems and a complete solution for futuristic zero-carbon industrial parks, in a move to take the lead in helping the Chinese government achieve its decarbonization goals.

Making ecology a vital part of its mission, Shanghai Electric has already taken many measures to minimize its impact on the ecological environment. The company's 44 square kilometer 700 MW thermal and 250 MW solar PV facility in Dubai is currently the world's largest solar thermal project in terms of installed capacity, investment scale and molten salt energy storage.

During the construction of the facility, Shanghai Electric made environmental protection a key priority, appointing a local professional animal welfare agency to conduct an on-site survey and arrange for the safe removal of local wildlife, including lizards, camels, , antelopes and red foxes. The effort also included the relocation of more than 200 precious trees that had been growing on the site for years. The Dubai project has not only become a new benchmark for global solar power generation under the umbrella of the "Belt and Road" initiative, but has also demonstrated the measures taken by Chinese companies to protect the environment and benefit the livelihoods of the population during their participation in projects abroad.

The company has also extended its green initiative to the public sector. In 2022, Shanghai Electric and the Green Carbon Foundation launched an ecological public service project that planted 1,200 trees on the west bank of the Yellow River in Yan'an, a city in Shaanxi province, to create a low-carbon forest to protect the river, as well as help the country meet the 30-60 dual carbon targets through practical actions. Shanghai Electric is committed to preserving the planet and upholding green ideas throughout the company.

In April 2021, Shanghai Electric made a one-time donation of 700,000 yuan to support an economic development project in Shanghai's Fengxian District, as well as providing marketing support to Zhuangxing Town in Fengxian District to assist in the sale of products worth more than 1.3204 million yuan.

The company also played a role in promoting cooperation between the western and eastern regions of the country, as well as revitalizing rural areas. In 2021, Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group, Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, three subsidiaries of Shanghai Electric, partnered with three towns in Fuyuan County, Qujing, Yunnan Province, where each of the subsidiaries provided assistance to one of the towns.

Over the course of 2021, Shanghai Electric provided 450,000 yuan in assistance funds to deal with identified practical problems, while also helping to solve logistical problems in terms of getting products worth more than 9.0516 to consumers. million yuan. These actions greatly contributed to accelerating the revitalization of rural areas.

As early as 2017, Shanghai Electric started construction of the first rural distributed water treatment demonstration project in Huapiao Village, Chenjia City, Chongming District. Without emitting any odor or noise, the compact 10 square meter integrated domestic sewage treatment station specially designed for the district was able to easily treat about 30 tons of domestic sewage discharged daily by more than 100 farming households living in the vicinity of the town.

In 2020, Shanghai Electric put together a package including its own intelligent sewage treatment equipment, prefabricated facilities, sewage treatment technologies, river and lake dredging techniques, as well as digital intelligence and green information technology, to build a comprehensive water environment management solution at its rural wastewater treatment PPP project in Huaiyuan county, Bengbu, Anhui province.
