- The Center national des arts plastiques launches a call for a commissioned work of art in memory of the genocide against the Tutsis of Rwanda

PARIS, June 26, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- In order for the genocidal massacre of the Tutsi in Rwanda between April and July 1994 to remain firmly etched in our collective memory, France wants to pay a national tribute to the memory of the victims by launching a project to create a national monument. The artwork will be permanently placed on the esplanade between the Pont de l'Alma and Pont des Invalides bridges, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, visible alongside several historical monuments.

Directed by the Center national des arts plastics (Cnap), this international call will allow the selection of the artist in charge of designing and creating this work of art. This call seeks to select an artist or group of artists whose professional artistic career is validated by creations and exhibitions in professional art spaces, such as art galleries, contemporary art centers and museums.

The request must be received by email and no later than July 31, 2023 (12:00 p.m.)

The consultation file for this first phase of the call procedure ('application phase') can be consulted and downloaded free of charge via the public procurement platform (https://www.marches-publics.gouv.fr) or on the Cnap .fr website ( https://www.cnap.fr/en/call - application - commissioned - artwork - memory - rwandan - genocide - of - the - tutsi ).

The steering and selection committee will meet in September 2023 to select 3 to 5 application files. Informed by the end of September 2023, shortlisted applicants will conduct a study for the creation of their proposed artwork. Selected candidates will have until January 8, 2024 to submit their study report. The steering and selection committee will meet for the second time in January 2024 to choose the project to follow. The winning project will be publicly announced on April 7, 2024. The chosen artist may be presented to the public during the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide. The artwork will be inaugurated on April 7, 2025.
