The crime of crimes

once you pronounce word genocide, world cannot remain impassive. And a report commissioned by United Nations you have just pronounced in case of persecution of rohingya muslim minority in Myanmar (formerly Burma). The UN document accuses high military officials of country to plan an attempt of genocide against this people, with complicity of civil authorities. The research includes interviews of 875 victims of mass violence that a year ago caused at least 10,000 murders and 725.000 refugees. In addition to killings and expulsions, women rohingya have suffered a degree of sexual violence organized creepy.

The concept of genocide was coined during World War II to describe Holocaust, a crime for which re exist name. It was adopted by UN in 1948 as “ attempt to destroy in whole or in part a national group, ethnic or racial in its entirety.” In or words, it defines desire to pursue and kill people just for fact of having been born. Is crime more serious that can be committed.

The problem is that it is very difficult to prove by concept of attempt, as it is necessary to demonstrate that acts committed had will to destroy, in whole a people. That's why re is no time to lose: experts believe that international investigation should start as soon as possible to accumulate evidence in refugee camps where it is now home to hundreds of thousands of survivors. The Security Council has legal capacity to request International Criminal Court (ICC) to act. The UN argues that “level of impunity” in Myanmar is “shocking”. It is impossible to guarantee that does not re-commit an atrocity such as this. But international community itself should demonstrate that comet will be brought to justice.
