HackensackUMC Palisades is introducing a new scholarship program that will provide $32,000 to students at eight high schools in the hospital's primary service area.

The Community Service Merit Scholarship Program will reward high school seniors who demonstrate significant accomplishments in community service and continue to be successful in the classroom.

Two graduating seniors from the class of 2017 from each of the following high schools will be selected to each receive a merit scholarship worth $2,000:

  • Cliffside Park High School
  • High Tech High School - North Bergen
  • Hoboken Charter School
  • Hoboken High School
  • Memorial High School - West New York
  • North Bergen High School
  • Union City High School
  • Weehawken High School

"We are delighted to announce this scholarship program, which reflects the importance of civic engagement and giving back to our local communities," Bruce J. Markowitz, president and CEO of HackensackUMC Palisades, said in a statement. "The HackensackUMC Palisades Community Service Merit Scholarship Program will reward high school seniors who share our hospital's commitment to community service and caring for our neighbors."

The online application process will be open from Feb. 14 through March 31.  Recommendations will be made by high school guidance counselors and scholarship applications will be reviewed by a committee of community volunteers. Scholarship recipients will be announced on May 5.
