Written bomb threat found inside Kearny High School

KEARNY -- A handwritten bomb threat was found inside Kearny High School Tuesday night by a school worker, police said.

The school was evacuated and all activities were cancelled at the Devon Street building after a custodian found the letter after school hours, the Kearny Police Department wrote on social media.

Police officers, firefighters, the school's staff searched the building and the Jersey City Bomb Squad was called to perform a "secondary search" of the building, police said.

Authorities did not find anything dangerous in the building and regularly scheduled activities were expected to resume Wednesday morning, the post reads.

The police department did not immediately return a request for comment about where the note was found, what was written, or if anyone has been charged.

Kearny Superintendent Patricia Blood said the school has "safety protocols in place all the time" when asked if additional security was being added to the building following the threat.

"We have confidence that our children are safe," she said.

Blood declined to comment on any other details about the threat that were not posted in the police department's public social media statement.
