Powerball jackpot hits $285M for Saturday drawing

Saturday night will mark eight weeks since someone last hit the Powerball jackpot.

Another drawing will be held Saturday in the twice-weekly multi-state lottery game. The top prize has jumped to $285 million with a cash option of $172.5 million.

The drawing will take place at 10:59 p.m. and air on WABC-7 in the New York City area and WPVI-6 in the Philadelphia area.

The last jackpot winners, a couple from Pennsylvania won the $121.6 million drawing on Dec. 17. They chose the cash option and won $72,145,291.83 before taxes with a lucky ticket purchased in Selbyville, Del., where state law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.

There were three second-prize tickets sold across the country for Wednesday's drawing. A ticket bought in California ticket is worth $2,120,302 while a tickets purchased in Georgia and Pennsylvania are valued at $1 million.

Last week, a $1 million ticket matching five numbers but not the Powerball was sold in Oakhurst.

The odds of a $2 ticket hitting the jackpot are more than 292 million to 1. It's roughly a 11,688,053 to 1 shot to match five numbers but not the Powerball.

Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
