Beirut is a " city of disaster ", has announced on Tuesday the supreme Council of defence of Lebanon, after the explosions, the deadliest that have rocked the port of the capital, and caused damage of an unprecedented scale in all parts of the city.

The Council, which notably brings together the president, the Prime minister and the minister of Defence, "recommends" to the government to declare a State of emergency, according to the national agency of information ANI. "A major catastrophe has befallen Lebanon," said the president Michel Aoun to the opening of the meeting.
