The hottest languages in the world are not what you might expect. Americans tend to be most charmed by the muscular tongues of Western Europe.

Dating app PlentyOfFish recently released a survey concluding that American women are most attracted to men who speak German as a second language, followed by Swedish and Dutch, while American men are into women who speak Dutch, followed by Arabic and Swedish.

The app combed through 50 million messages sent via its site and surveyed 325 of its American users. Researchers found that bilingual people are more likely to receive messages than their monolingual peers since they were also more likely to enter more information about themselves on their dating profiles.

“Like having an accent, having a second language can be seen as sexy, worldly,” Michael McDermott, a data scientist at PlentyOfFish, told Quartz. “It is also an indicator of higher education.”
