The council of ministers has decided to maintain until early August the deployment of soldiers in major cities in the framework of the operation "Vigilant Guardian" (OVG) in support of the federal police, in spite of the desire of the military hierarchy – supported by the minister of Defence – to see that this effort is reducing.

" The support of the Defence is maintained at 550 military for a period of one month from 3 July to 2 August 2020. This number takes into also account a reserve capacity that could be immediately deployed, " said the government in a press release.
