BRUNSWICK --- Chances are good that a recently held fundraiser by more than 25 businesses in the Brunswick Industrial Park will become an annual event.

"We will definitely do it again next year," said Proximity Marketing President, Mark Priebe, of the May 26-27 food drive benefiting Feeding Medina County. "There were a lot of logistics involved and we wondered 'do we have the time?' But we were very surprised and overwhelmed by the response."

The food drive was organized by Proximity Marketing, along with the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance. Participants dropped off items at Proximity Marketing, where Feeding Medina County picked up the donations of canned goods, cereals, peanut butter, dog food, condiments and more. More than 28 large boxes of non-perishable food items - 1,265 pounds worth - were donated.

Integrated Marketing Technologies alone donated three pallets of frozen food, making for additional 2,018 pounds of donated food.

Idea is seeded

Priebe said the effort was an outgrowth of his participation in Leadership Medina County. "As a group, we learn about the county; its history, business and industry and services," Priebe said.

Feeding Medina County was one of the agencies Leadership Medina County focused upon. Priebe said that while he was familiar with services like the Brunswick Food Pantry, he was less aware of the countywide agency that helps supply such organizations.

Feeding Medina County is a non-profit organization helping to feed families in need in Medina County. The non-profit organization provides food to 20,236 people each year, through its Weekenders, Staples for Seniors, and multiple food distribution programs.

"It is easy around Thanksgiving and Christmas to think about others and be grateful and giving, but there is a need year around," Priebe said of the timing of the Brunswick Business Park's food drive.

Big business family

Apart from the food donations, he added, the camaraderie between the businesses was also inspiring.

"The business park is home to so many companies in the Brunswick area. It was great to team up with our neighboring businesses for this great cause," Priebe said. "Coming together as businesses to give back to the community that has given so much to us was a fantastic opportunity to take part in."

Participating companies included Proximity Marketing; Trans Group Worldwide Logistics; Electronic Restoration Services (ERS); Feazel Inc.; Direct Ink Graphics & Displays; Pilot Signs & Designs; Nicholas Press Sales; CCC Coffee Service; GEM Instrument Company; Lucarelli Designs & Displays; W.W.Williams; DC Systems; Integrated Marketing Technologies; All Construction Services; A.G.
