CLEVELAND, Ohio – Another Cleveland superstar is heading to the West Coast to try to bring home a championship tonight.

Cleveland chef Jonathon Sawyer will be heating up the summer with an appearance on the Food Network's "Chopped Grill Masters Napa" premiere episode tonight, Tuesday, July 5, at 10 p.m.

Like LeBron James before him, the lauded local chef's goal in heading to Northern California is to draw national attention to Cleveland – and in his case, the city's thriving food scene. Chef Sawyer, 2015 winner of the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Great Lakes, will compete in the five-part themed tournament alongside 15 other grilling professionals from around the country.

Each episode includes four chefs competing over three rounds, with recurring "Chopped" and special guest judges deciding their fate. The winner from each heat wins $10,000 and a spot in the grand finale on Tuesday, Aug. 2, to compete for $50,000 more.

In honor of the big event, Sawyer is hosting a Chopped Watch Party at his Greenhouse Tavern on East Fourth Street tonight. He and fellow competitor Chef Ashley Pado of Wooster will be in attendance and will do a Q&A after the 10 p.m. broadcast. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the pre-show cocktail reception includes small bites and passed plates of items featured on the show. Tickets, $50, are available by emailing edie@thegreenhousetavern.com. Big screens throughout the restaurant will be broadcasting the episode.

"Chopped Grill Masters Napa," hosted by Ted Allen, was filmed outdoors in the Beringer Vineyards in Napa Valley.

Each chef had access to an outdoor kitchen of ingredients, charcoal and propane grills, as well as a smoker. The 16 competitors must incorporate mandatory ingredients from the mystery baskets through three rounds -- appetizer, entree and dessert – showcasing their grilling skills.

Chef Sawyer -- of Greenhouse, Trentina and Noodlecat restaurants -- is competing against Bryan Moscatello (Napa, California), Ashley Pado (Wooster, Ohio) and Chad Rosenthal (Ambler, Pennsylvania) on tonight's premiere episode. The judges will be chefs Michael Chiarello, Amanda Freitag and Marc Murphy.
