Netflix is turning 3 Cleveland coffee shops into Luke's Diner from 'Gilmore Girls'

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland may not resemble Stars Hollow, the quaint fictional hamlet inhabited by the "Gilmore Girls," but three coffee shops around the city will be transformed into Lorelai and Rory's favorite coffee shop on Wednesday.

Pour (530 Euclid Ave.), Vintage Tea and Coffee (1816 E. 12th St.) and Dewey's Coffee House (13201 Shaker Sq.) are being re-branded as Luke's Diner from 7 a.m. to noon on Oct. 5.

How faithful the re-creations will be remains to be seen. While you probably won't be admonished by a backwards baseball cap-wearing proprietor for using a cell phone or chatted up by an Asian girl who loves obscure bands, the first 200 fans will get a free coffee served by someone wearing a Luke's Diner apron who may or may not be named Caesar. I suppose that's pretty authentic -- I mean how many coffees did Lorelai and Rory actually pay for?

There will also be t-shirts, giveaways and photo ops, though no one from the actual show will be there, according to the Facebook pages of the shops participating in the promotion. There are 250 of them, by the way, around the country.

Luke's Coffee Day is being held on the 16th anniversary of the premiere of the "Gilmore Girls" on the WB network. The show is returning November 25 as "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," a series of four 90-minute movies on Netflix.
