Senior living community coming to Hanover Park

The Village of Hanover Park, in conjunction with Aman Living LLC, announced the proposed development of the 11-acre site at 900 Irving Park Road.

The Verandah Retirement Community will be an age-restricted senior living community with independent senior housing, assisted living and a memory care facility on the property. The independent housing will have a combination of ranch-style townhouses and condominium units.

"This development is consistent with our Irving Park Corridor Plan and will significantly improve this gateway to our community," said Hanover Park Village Manager Juliana Maller.

On-site amenities are scheduled to include a clubhouse designed to be the social hub of the community. It will offer a dining facility serving fresh meals daily, a community room, a computer room, library and beauty shop. It will also have a big outdoor seating area overlooking the proposed pond.

It will have medical services to include a home-health service, doctor's office, physical therapy office, assisted living and memory care facility. The property will have extensive landscaped areas, including a 1-acre pond, small park, water features and walking paths.

While the underlying zoning has been approved, the specific site plan will be considered by the Hanover Park Village Board this winter. The developer intends to remove the parking lot during October to enable the project to move forward efficiently next spring.

If approved, the project will be completed in phases, starting with the townhouses, followed by the condominium building and the assisted living and memory care facility. Anticipated completion would be in spring-summer of 2019.

"I am looking forward to seeing a vacant site be redeveloped for a use that is consistent with the village's long term development goals," said Shubhra Govind, Hanover Park director of Community & Economic Development. "The project will fill a need for senior housing in the community."

The developer is Aman Living LLC, which has previously been involved in townhouse communities in Bourbonnais.

"This property has been an eyesore for several years and this development will bring new life to the area," Mayor Rod Craig said. "The village board looks forward to a quality development, which will allow the aging members of our community to stay in Hanover Park."
