Three more firefighters say they were hazed by FDNY members

Three more FDNY firefighters have stepped forward to claim they were hazed and humiliated by fellow smoke-eaters, The Post has learned.

The individuals contacted attorneys in the wake of a series of Post reports on a rookie firefighter who charges he was sexually assaulted and tormented at his midtown firehouse, and another who says he was fired after complaining about bullying at his Tribeca post.

One new case involves a male Hispanic probationary firefighter in his 20s who alleges he was “taunted, hazed and terminated” last year at a Manhattan firehouse, attorney Paul Liggieri told The Post.

Liggieri, who is preparing a racial discrimination lawsuit on behalf of the firefighter, said the client contacted him after reading last Sunday’s Post story about Michael Troina, 24, of Queens. Troina said veteran firefighters at Ladder 1/Engine 7 mocked him, blanketed his car in peanut butter and debris; shoved him; challenged him to fight, and called him a “bitch,” “loser” and “fa—t.” Troina is also preparing to sue the FDNY.

Troina told The Post that after his story appeared, he was contacted by a current firefighter, an ex-Marine, who said he too was hazed and bullied at Ladder 1/Engine 7. Troina referred the smoke-eater to his attorney, Pamela Hayes.

Hayes told The Post she also received a message from a former firefighter who said he had a similar experience, and that “this has happened to a lot of people.” He wants to sue and Hayes is evaluating his case, she said.

The accusations come after The Post exposed allegations that probie Gordon Springs, who is African American, was hazed and sexually abused on his first day at Ladder Co. 35/Engine 40 by a group of naked firefighters, including one who dangled his genitals onto his face. Springs, 27, has sued Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, a lieutenant and three firefighters.

“It only takes one. The domino effect has begun,” Liggieri told The Post on Friday. “My client Gordon Springs gave others courage to come forward and speak up instead of remaining in the shadows.”

Liggieri said the city Department of Investigation — which failed to interview Springs when it originally looked into his case last year — now wants to quiz him. The feds are also looking into the Springs case, a source said.

“Nobody has reached out from [the Department of Justice],” Liggieri said.

“Hazing has been going on for years,” said Regina Wilson, president of the Vulcans Society, at a Thursday press conference outside Brooklyn federal court. The Vulcans, a fraternal organization that represents black firefighters, have sued the FDNY for alleged racial discrimination.

The jurist in that matter, Judge Nicholas Garaufis, took notice of the Springs case in a hearing the same day.

The FDNY did not respond to a request for the number of pending complaints to the department’s Equal Employment Opportunity office or the number filed since the Springs case made headlines.
