BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- Memorial Day in the West Shore communities will be commemorated with ceremonial dedications, tributes and parades.

In addition, prior to May 30 observances to honor the nation's military men and women, a few other weekend events will take place in Bay Village, Rocky River and Westlake.

BAY VILLAGE

The American Legion Memorial Day parade steps off at 8:30 a.m. May 30 from Huntington Beach, proceeding west on Lake Road to Lakeside Cemetery. Upon arrival at the cemetery, names of the founding fathers who served their country will be read. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the parade will re-form on Lake Road and proceed to Cahoon Road, turn right and end at the Cahoon Memorial Park West gazebo. A memorial service will take place, with remarks from dignitaries and a 21-gun salute by American Legion Post 385 in the Rose Garden. Afterwards, veterans are invited to the Post, located on Cahoon Road south of the railroad tracks, for breakfast.

Prior to Memorial Day, the annual May in Bay 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run will take place May 28. Registration and packet pickup begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the fun run at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. For more information, including registration fees, a course map and age-group and other awards, go to hermescleveland.com, or call Hermes Sports and Events at 216-623-9933.

ROCKY RIVER

The city's May 30 parade, organized by the Joint Veterans Council of Rocky River and Lakewood, begins at 10 a.m. and departs from the Rocky River High School Wagar Road parking lot. It will proceed west on Detroit Road and end at Lakewood Park Cemetery. A ceremony will then take place among the more than 3,400 flags previously placed on veterans' graves to honor their military service.

For anyone looking for a musical experience prior to Memorial Day, the Rocky River High School Jazz Band will perform from 7-8:30 p.m. May 29 in the Rocky River Park Pavilion or City Hall Gazebo (venue to be determined) as part of the 2016 Summer Concert Series.
