FEBRUARY

Tuesday, Feb. 7: Regency Wine Sellers & Bar is starting a tasting group on the first Tuesday of every month. It's a chance to drink and discuss all things related to wine: Language, food pairings, travel, blind tastings and more. The group will be led by certified wine instructor Brandon Ford. To start, there is no fee. Introduction is 6-8 p.m. RSVP by calling 330-836-3447. Regency is at 115 Ghent Road, Fairlawn.

Tuesday, Feb. 7: Western Reserve Wines' monthly main-event tasting is titled "From 'Gimme the Sack!' to 'Madeira M'Dear', a Port, Madeira and Montilla Experience." Certified specialist of wine Darryl Spansky will guide the tasting about the wines, rich in flavors and history. Cheeses, breads and desserts will complement the wines. Friday, Feb. 10: Heinen's will hold a tasting featuring red wines of winter 6:30-8 p.m. It's a chance to sip 12 wines from the store's red-wine collection. Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11: The Lakehouse Inn Winery is holding a whiskey and wine weekend. Sample local libations. It will feature pairings such as roasted duck breast with black truffle turnip confit, to black grouper with white gazpacho, to a caramel rum flourless chocolate cake, each paired with tequilas. Wednesday Feb. 15: Western Reserve Wines is holding a pop-up tasting featuring Francesca Conti of Mauro Molino. Thursday, Feb. 16: Portage Crossing Market District will hold a four-course Red Carpet Wine Dinner 6-8 p.m. Cost is $35 featuring Santa Margarita Winery and, yes, there's an actual red carpet and photo backdrop, ballots and prize giveaway. Includes party-perfect dishes, wine pairings and more. It's at 2687 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls.

Saturday, March 4: Donzell's Flower and Garden Center will hold its wine and orchids tasting 1-4 p.m. The garden center will have bottles for sale as well. Donzell's is at 937 E. Waterloo Road, Akron. (For beer lovers, Hoppin' Frog Brewery is 2 miles to the east on the same street.)

Friday-Saturday, Aug. 4-5: Vintage Ohio is 1-10 p.m. Sample wines from Ohio wineries. Wines range from Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Riesling to fruit wines made from fresh strawberries, blackberries, peaches and raspberries. Includes food, cooking-school demonstrations, three stages of live music, artisans, shopping and Friday fireworks. It's at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road, Kirtland.
