A 48-year-old man was shot on the Springwater Trail in Southeast Portland, police said.
Officers responded to the shooting at 3:06 a.m. just east of the trail's intersection with Southeast 82nd Avenue, and found the victim, said Sgt. Pete Simpson in a news release. An ambulance crew took the victim to a hospital where he's expected to survive his injury, he said.
Officers detained a person of interest, Simpson said. They learned the victim and the person both live on the trail, he said.
Assault detectives have begun their investigation. Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division will also assist in the case.
No other information was released overnight. This post will be updated as news develops.
