For judges, who are sitting diagonally against him, Mathias Grasel has ready-to-teach words. Despite pressure of public and "understandable desire to bring responsible to account", his client must not be punished as a substitute, he lectures. His client, this is Beate Zschäpe, only surviving member of NSU Trio and main defendant in Munich trial for right-extremist terrorist group.

For a lesson in criminal law, judges of Chairman Manfred Götzl should have no need. Neverless, Grasel lays down: "The last bite of dogs", that must not be motto of verdict. Instead, rule of law must be able to withstand fact that deceased NSU members Uwe Munder and Uwe Böhnhardt can no longer be punished.

It is third and final day of plea of Grasel and his colleague Hermann Borchert, who act as so-called trust lawyers of Zschäpe. Their three Altanwälte hold ir own plea after that.

NSU-process-defense calls for a maximum of ten years of imprisonment for Zschäpe presumed NSU extremist Beate Zschäpe is supposed to go to prison for a maximum of ten years according to ideas of her wish defenders. Even before final lecture began on Tuesday, thrust was clear: Beate Zschäpe was largely innocent and by no means complicit in murders and bombings that had been Böhnhardt during thirteen years of NSU in underground. Of course, defenders do not want to accept claim of federal prosecutor: life imprisonment, determination of particular severity of guilt and safekeeping. The 43-year-old may never be free again.

Grasel and Borchert return principle: instead of maximum guilt, y assume smallest possible level of responsibility. Their interpretation is quite exactly same as facts which do not deny mselves with a maximum of creativity, because evidence is clear. These are: aid to serious robbery in ten cases, predatory blackmail in three cases and attempted serious robbery in two cases – robberies with which NSU financed his life. In addition, re is a particularly heavy arson in concomitance with result of an explosive explosion – on November 4, 2011, Zschäpe lit up zwickauer apartment of trio with gasoline and caused a displacement, in apartment next door held a frail Neighbor.

Compared to terror that should take Federal Republic out of fishing, se offenses are just little rest. Accordingly, requirement for penalties is: Borchert applies for a total penalty of no more than ten years. Should court give in to this, Zschäpe would be on verge of dismissal: She has been in custody for six years. This is counted as a prison sentence.

Zschäpe should no longer be right extreme

The fact that it comes to this is highly unlikely – to be read, among or things, that only little is left of plea Borcherts and Grasels. Borchert had spoken for two days – but did not hold a substantive lecture, but released a single rant against federal prosecutor's office. "Here we are looking for mosaic stones in order to doubt credibility of client," he revolted day before. That he was pretty accurate in describing his own plea method, one by one.

What is remarkable, above all, is what Zschäpe is not in eyes of its defenders. No accomplice in murders and attacks, nor any member of National Socialist Underground Association – y had only founded and operated Böhnhardt. Moreover, her client is no longer a right-wing extremist. "Personally, I am firmly convinced that re is no longer any political and anti-social thinking in Mrs Zschäpe," says Grasel. Among or things, he notes that Zschäpe did not reply to letter which Norwegian assassin Anders Behring Breivik had sent to prison.
