NSU process: The mammoth procedure

24,500 spectators, 28 million euro extra cost: For five years, the NSU's murders have occupied the judiciary. Those who see the process in numbers understand its extent better.

NSU process: The mammoth procedure

Since 6th of May 2013 trial of only survivor of terrorist cell NSU, Beate Zschäpe, is taking place at Munich Higher Regional court. The procedure lasts because Zschäpe has contributed little to clarification of alleged ten murders and numerous bank robberies of right-extremist terrorist cell. Again and again, process is interrupted by bias requests from defenders of Zschäpe and ir presumed right-extremist supporters.

They are accompanied by a total of 15 defenders. Beate Zschäpe alone has four obligatory and one electoral defender on her side.

The figure is an extrapolation, which is based on averages according to court's surveys. On average, re are 57 spectators per day. It also includes several visitors, such as journalists, who report on process almost every day. In hall re are 101 seats, 50 of which are intended for journalists. Due to huge crowd of media representatives, reservations for se seats were raffled. This was preceded by a lengthy dispute over correct way of allocating space, which even ended up in Federal Constitutional Court.
