Turkey: Justice accuses Deniz Yücel of terrorist propaganda

Turkey accuses journalists of world detained for more than nine months, Deniz Yücel, of terrorist propaganda and sedition, and considers his detention to be justified. This is from a Turkish opinion at European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which is subject of German press agency. The measures against journalist are "necessary and appropriate", it says.

The Turkish government called on court to reject complaint Yücels against its pre-trial detention. Yücel had already filed a complaint with Turkish Constitutional Court in March and had to make full use of national legal recourse, it was stated, among or things, for justification. The fact that Constitutional Court had not yet made a decision was "extremely justifiable" given state of emergency in Turkey and high burden on courts.

Turkey had submitted its opinion in Strasbourg on Tuesday, shortly before end of time limit set by human rights court. Yücel has been detained in prison Silivri west of Istanbul since 27 February. An indictment has not yet been written. State President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had repeatedly called journalist a spy. In opinion of Turkish Government, however, accusation of espionage does not occur.

The Turkish Government considers that investigations against Yücel have nothing to do with its activity as a journalist, as is clear from opinion. Rar, re is an urgent suspicion that Yücel has acted in accordance with objectives of terrorist organisations and has disseminated propaganda in favour of terrorist organization and carried out actions to resolve a conflict between Turkish and Kurdish Social groups. Terrorist organizations are banned Kurdish Workers ' Party PKK and Gülen movement. Turkey makes latter responsible for coup attempt of July 2016.

Even from justification for arrest warrant, it was pointed out that Yücel propaganda was accused of PKK, Gülen movement and incitement of people. Among or things, court mentioned an interview of Yücel with PKK leader Cemil Bayık from year 2015, which evaluates prosecutor's office as a terrorist propaganda. In its opinion, Turkish government now also quotes from Court's protocol of that time.
