The winter slump has led to numerous accidents and closures throughout Germany. Hundreds of flights had to be cancelled in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn.

In many parts of Germany, winter slump has led to considerable traffic disturbances. More than 250 flights were cancelled at Frankfurt Airport by afternoon, and operator company Fraport is part of it. A spokeswoman described situation as "dramatic", even on cleared tracks, because of continuing snow, prescribed braking values had not been reached.

According to Fraport, hundreds of connections are also delayed; At Germany's largest turnstile, only one runway was available for takeoff and landing planes. Düsseldorf Airport was also temporarily operating, with several flights in Cologne/Bonn.

In German railway, re were disturbances in train traffic due to ice and snow. In many parts of Germany re were delays, redirections and failures. Trains had to be diverted to turnouts due to malfunctions. In North Rhine-Westphalia, railways advised to postpone train journeys altoger. Due to winter road conditions, rail replacement traffic also fell.

Car accidents and roadblocks on roads

There were also numerous car accidents due to snow and road smoothness. In vicinity of Cuxhaven, a man died on Saturday, who waited for towing service on side strip of highway 27 after a breakdown. He was hit by a car that had left on smooth road to right. In upper Harz, three people were seriously injured when a driver on a smooth road lost control of his car and drove frontally against a tree.

Also in North Rhine-Westphalia re were hundreds of road accidents on snow-covered roads. According to national control, ten people were injured, two of m difficult. On A3 on cross Breitscheid, a lorry was placed in early morning hours on Saturday and stuck. The motorway remained partially closed until afternoon. The fire brigade provided waiting drivers.

In Alps, German Wear Service (DWD) reckoned for Sunday evening and Monday on peaks with extreme hurricane and wind speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The cold and snowfall also increased risk of avalanches during weekend. A spokesman for Bavarian Avalanche Warning service, however, shared that situation would probably not worsen furr.
