The season would, in principle, due to begin on 8 march in Qatar, but only the tests Moto2 and Moto3 had been able to be organised before the containment measures imposed to combat the pandemic of Covid-19. Several races were postponed and cancelled.

Thursday, the FIM and Dorna, the promoter of the championship, have unveiled the timetable recast. It provides for 13 races in Europe between 19 July and 15 November, and four on two other continents subject to confirmation before the 31st of July.
