The system of olympic qualification for the marathon and walking will be back on the agenda from 1 September 2020, announced on Wednesday that the international athletics federation World Athletics/WA). This decision was taken due to concerns over the lack of opportunities for qualification that could be offered to the athletes of the events on the road before the end of the qualification period set at 31 may 2021.

The system of qualification had been suspended from April 6 to November 30, 2020 due to the pandemic Covid-19. Other track and field events, remain concerned by the date of 30 November.
